Emeritus Archbishop of Malines-Bruxelles
Ep. André Léonard holds a licentiate of Sacred Theology (Pontifical Gregorian University) and is a Doctor of Philosophy (Catholic University of Louvain). He has taught in the Philosophy Department of Louvain and was President of the Saint Paul Seminary. He was appointed Bishop of Namur on 7 February 1991 and Archbishop of Malines-Bruxelles, Primate of Belgium on 27 February 2010. He retired on 12 December 2015. He preached the 1999 lenten retreat for the Roman Curia in Vatican. He has written many books of theology and philosophy. In 1980, he was awarded the Scriptores christiani Prize for his book Pensées des Hommes et Foi en Jésus-Christ, pour un discernement intellectuel chrétien. In 1987, he became a member of the International Theological Commission, the consultative organ of the Roman Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
