Bishop of Blois
Philosophy graduate (Sorbonne), Doctor of History of Religions (Sorbonne) and of Theology (Catholic University of Paris), Ep. Jean-Pierre Batut has been a member of the doctrinal Commission of the Bishops’ Conference of France (CEF) since 2011. Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lyon on 28 November 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI, to work with Cardinal Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon, he was ordained a bishop on 10 January 2009. On 22 November 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Blois by Pope Francis.
He wrote several reference books, including Dieu le Père Tout-Puissant (1998), Qui est le Dieu des chrétiens ? with Rémi Brague, (2011), À partir du Credo, Conférences de Carême de Fourvière (2013).
